Round Top was developed in 1964 by Irvin Naylor. Round Top joined two other ski resort in PA under Snow Time Inc. Locate in Wellsville, the mountain is a poular place for outdoor enthusists and draws crowds from neigboring states. In 2018 Snow Time was purchased by Peak Resorts, and then purchased by Vail which only increased the mountain's popularity.
I went to Round Top with my friend Luca to take some photos of him skiing fo this project. About halfway through our time there we spotted another photographer, Melody Cheng. It was awsome to meet her, especially since we all shared a common intrest in photography.
"I keep picking up the camera because there's something so exciting about capturing the perfect mood or moment. I enjoy high action sports photography especially because there's so many moving parts to it, but there's also something about slowing down and taking abstract photos on the streets too. Sometimes you find a really cool detail that literally everyone is passing by and not even sparing a glance."
"I've never skied before. Roundtop was definitely out of my comfort zone and I took some pretty bad tumbles. I've always wanted to catch some snow sport photos as well. Most other sports have so much going on in the background. The background being all snow really creates an awesome backdrop where all the focous is soley on the subject. Some of them wear very vibrant coats too, so the burst of color against the white snow is really fun to capture."
Reflection: This project was really fun and a bit scary. I think I got some awesome shots and met cool people. I was a bit terrified to take my camera on the slope with me but it was definitley worth it, all of my shots turned out great. I want to refine the design for the maps a little bit more.
